As with everything else in New York, space comes at price. Which means for a decent sized pool you'll need to reserve a room at one of the higher end hotels. While many New York hotels claim to have a pool, most are much smaller than anything any normal person would call an oversized bathtub! If you need a pool to get your daily laps in, we have listed your options below in order of NYC.com's choice of the best hotel pools in New York.

The Mandarin Oriental is the indisputable leader in the New York Hotel Pool category. Located on the 35th floor with floor-to-ceiling windows, this indoor 75 foot three lane lap pool offers both elegance and enough highway for a good workout swim. The pool is part of the luxurious Spa at Mandarin Oriental, a 14,500 square-foot oasis offering holistic rejuvenation and relaxation in a setting of complete tranquility. Add to this all the amenities and service that you would expect from a world class five star hotel, and the Mandarin is without a doubt the preferred choice for travelers who need their daily swim.

This glass-enclosed swimming pool is housed on the top floor of this 23-story hotel and offers stunning views of Midtown. The pool is in The Peninsula Spa, a three level spa and fitness emporium with the exacting standards one would expect from one of New York's best hotels. A seasonal sundeck is also available.

Located across the street from the Mandarin Oriental, the Trump International Hotel and Tower's two lane lap pool is less luxurious than the pool at the Mandarin Oriental, but is often less crowded. As with the Mandarin Oriental, here too you can enjoy all the amenities and service that you would expect from a world class five star hotel.

The Sheraton Manhattan is probably the best value if you are not on a five star budget. While the 50 foot pool will feel small for most out of town visitors, it ranks among the largest hotel pools available in the city. In addition, a seasonal sundeck is also available, along with a health club with a range of aerobic and weight training equipment.
The Melrose Hotel New York, Three Star

The pool at the Melrose is actually housed in the Equinox Fitness Center located in the same building. Hotel guests of the Melrose are allowed free access to this sleek 34,000-Square-foot club and spa, which occupies four floors of the building. While the Equinox health club facilities are top notch and far superior to most hotel offerings in the city, the pool is often packed with non-hotel guests swimming laps. You can expect two and sometimes three people to a lane.

If you are staying in lower Manhattan, this is really your only option for a hotel with a large enough pool to get your laps in. While the pool amenities are not as luxurious as at some of the higher end hotels, here you typically you'll have a lane, if not the entire pool, to yourself. Though do be warned: the small size will come as something of a shock to anyone used to a standard size pool.

Located on the 27th floor, this smallish three lane lap pool offers impressive views of midtown Manhattan. If you are also into tennis, the Millennium offers access to a rooftop tennis court with some of the more spectacular views you'll find on a tennis court!

If you like a late night swim, Le Parker Meridien offer's hotel guests free access to the onsite 15,000 square foot Gravity Fitness center which houses a penthouse pool. However, as this fitness center is open to non-hotel guests, the pool is often more crowded than at some of the other hotel locations. Nevertheless, the pool is well maintained and offers stunning views of Central Park.

This decent-sized pool is located in a 29,000-square-foot fitness center operated by New York Sports Club. The club features all the latest weight and exercise equipment, as well as steam rooms, saunas and other spa facilities. Access to the pool is free to hotel guests; however, if you wish to use the other exercise facilities, hotel guests are charged a $10 fee during the club's peak hours (Monday - Friday 11:00 am - 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm - 8:30 pm). Note that here you will be competing with non-hotel guests for access to the pool.

If you are on a budget, this Brooklyn hotel offers a great value. And with nine major subway lines all within one block, you can quickly get to just about any location in the city. The pool is housed in a well equipped 12,000-square foot Eastern Athletic Health Club. The pool is often busy as the health club is open to non-hotel guests.
Small Pools mainly for vibe and scene include the Hotel Gansevoort and the Hotel QT.
