amazing chef
Sue Torres really knows what she is doing and over the past six years I've enjoyed her food at both locations mentioned in this review. I have always been impressed with her cooking, and I've travelled extensively through Central America, so I'm not a guac and taco kinda guy. But I wish she would hire more motivated help at this place.

terrific opera
After you get over the fact that it isn't the Met, you'll quickly realize that City Opera has terrific opera performances as well. While the setting isn't as dramatic as the Met, neither are the ticket prices.

magnificent
Regardless of whether the Cathedral will ever be finished, it is a monumental work, an oasis of tranquility, and a fascinating construction. Every time I visit I find new and fascinating things to admire and enjoy.

hallmark of lower Manhattan
City Hall is the quintessential gateway to lower Manhattan, the seat of municipal power, and the place from which governmental energy emanates. Both the building and the park are worth a visit (or at least a photo). And with the Brooklyn Bridge, Municipal Building, and major courthouses all a stone's throw away, you've got a nice walking tour in the immediate vicinity.

controversial renovation moves ahead
Villagers are notoriously fickle, and when plans to renovate their most famous park were announced, an uproar over various details--perhaps inevitable--ensued. While the multi-year renovation will leave the park looking largely as it did before, certain cosmetic changes and facelifts here and there will make it more accessible than before. But ask yourself if the cops will ever finally run those drug dealers out of the park.

Himalayan art for the masses
Donald & Shelley Rubin have converted the former Barney's department store into a marvelous six-story museum, along with theater in basement and shop and café on ground floor. The exhibits are world-class, and this recently-opened museum has deservedly received much fanfare in the press. The galleries are well-lit, the staff helpful and informative, which in turn makes the art accessible.

practice, practice, practice
Aside from the age-old question: "How to get to Carnegie Hall?" you would be wise to actually go and go often. The classical music performances are world-class, as is the venue. Pity that the Philharmonic did not relocate here, but the Lincoln Center mafia slyly prevented its demise by creating a phony uproar over Lincoln Center's future. Anyhow, do visit Carnegie Hall for its many fine musical offerings.

rare gem
One of the city's most beautiful interiors will get a face lift and major upgrade if this station is built. We New Yorkers can only hope it will happen, as the present Penn Station is as enjoyable as swimming through a can of sardines packed in oil.

raw space at high price
You could pick a worse venue for a rock-n-roll show, dance-a-thon or religious revival. The location is convenient to Penn Station, but that's about all this place has going for it.

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree...
One of the classic December events that makes the holiday season merry and bright. If you can brave the throngs, it's a fun ceremony. I prefer to watch it on t.v. Humpfh!
