DEC 15-17, 11 Spring Street, woostercollective.com
WOOSTER COLLECTIVE
A long-time staple of the downtown art scene, the Wooster Collective wrangled together graffiti legends such as Lady Pink and John Fekner, and new generation giants such as Shepard Fairey, WK Interact, and Swoon to work upon the interior walls of their new digs at 11 Spring St. But get there quickly: On the last day, all work will be covered, creating one of the coolest time capsules in history.

I stopped by yesterday and peeked inside! I just those dirty little skater boys!

On Thursday, December 14, the Guggenheim Museum's Young Collectors Council hosts the annual Artist's Ball, sponsored by Giorgio Armani. Celebrating a generation of young artists, collectors, and friends of the Guggenheim Museum, the event is chaired by Roberta Armani, Amalia Dayan, Eva Jeanbart Lorenzotti, Jacqueline Sackler, Marielle Safra, and Lucy Sykes-Rellie and honors artist Pipilotti Rist. Funds raised from the event will be used to acquire works by emerging artists for the museum’s permanent collection and to support the museum’s progressive exhibitions program.
Artist's Ball Silent Auction – View Works
HONOREE
Since the late 1980s, Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist has produced large-scale, multi-channel video projections, intricate, sculptural installations involving video, and more intimate monitor-based pieces. The hypnotic, often enchanting worlds she creates are inflected by haunting sound tracks and feature emblematic female subjects who appear at once coquettish and rebellious. Narratives of desire and fantasy, empowerment and liberation abound in the lush landscapes of her creations. The Guggenheim is pleased to have three significant video works and installations by Rist in its collection.

Members of the YCC are introduced to artists of our time through a wide-range of monthly educational programs designed by the museum's curators. YCC Acquisitions Committee members also attend semi-annual acquisitions committe meetings during which they vote on proposed works for the museum's permanent collection.

Movie Night with David Lynch
Monday, December 4 at 7:30pm!
The legendary director in person?to screen one of his short films?and present a personal favorite:?Alfred Hitchcock's VERTIGO
Purchase tickets online
In the latest edition of the IFC Center's "Movie Night" program, the visionary director of Blue Velvet and Twin Peaks presents one of his short films and a special 35mm screening of Alfred Hitchcock's masterwork VERTIGO, this Monday evening at 7:30pm. VERTIGO's themes of dopplegangers, obsession, and women in distress are mirrored in Lynch's latest, INLAND EMPIRE, which opens for its world premiere theatrical engagement exclusively at the IFC Center Wednesday, December 6.
INLAND EMPIRE stars Laura Dern in a tour-de-force performance as, perhaps, an actress who lands a dream role that quickly devolves into nightmare. Intrigued by the texture and freedom of consumer-grade DV, Lynch started out shooting tests with Dern; over the next two years, he grafted on scenes encompassing Hollywood machinations, conjugal intrigue, Polish curses, and even a rabbit-headed sitcom parody. The result is as dark, unpredictable, and utterly compelling as anything he's ever done, both a masterful recap of a career -- including appearances by Lynch veterans Justin Theroux, Laura Harring, Grace Zabriskie, Diane Ladd, and the inimitable Harry Dean Stanton -- and his most radical and experimental movie since Eraserhead.
In the "Movie Night" program, the IFC Center turns over a theater to special guests and lets them call the shots. Audiences can discover what some of their favorite authors, musicians, artists, and filmmakers would pick if it were Movie Night at their house. Participants appear in person to share why they made their selections: to acknowledge the brilliance of a timeless classic, spotlight an unsung gem, or defend a guilty pleasure. Past guests include the filmmaker David Gordon Green, Slovenian theorist and philosopher Slavoj Zizek, singer-songwriter-actor Will Oldham, director and Monty Python alum Terry Gilliam, French auteur Gaspar Noe, and author Jonathan Lethem.
Tickets to this special event are $15, $12 for seniors.
