PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Memorial Day
The film's objective is to examine and apprehend the emotional and
psychological mindset of the American soldiers that committed the atrocities in Abu Ghraib prison in 2003-4. It is a NON-SAG very low budget feature/documentary, that is nearing completion.
The film follows a group of US soldiers through a haze of intoxicated
states. First a lost Memorial Day weekend at an anonymous beach town where binge drinking, date rape, fraternity hazing and "girls gone wild" style exhibitionism rule the night.
Next, to the barracks and prisons of Iraq, where M-16s, peer pressure, fear, sexual obsessiveness and sexual humiliation (among the soldiers) create a giddy bloodthirsty frat-house atmosphere.
For the third section, we find ourselves in Abu Ghraib prison, where this rollercoaster of partying and fighting creates an atmosphere where torture is a party and partying is war.
Call us or email for further details to find out how you can be a part. We need over 300 extras. Naked and clothed. Bring your friends.

RESFEST|10 CHICAGO
MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART
220 EAST CHICAGO AVENUE (AT N. MICHIGAN)
OCTOBER 19-22
RESFEST's tenth anniversary tour kicks off this Thursday in Chicago at the Museum of Contemporary Art (and in Paris the next day at the Pompidou Centre) before travelling on to another 43 cities in 21 countries on six continents. If you live in the Chicago area, you won't want to miss it, and if you don't, be sure to tell your friends to attend.
Featuring entries from more than 30 countries, this year's festival programming is as international as its itinerary. A number of focused, dynamic short film programs highlight the year's trends and innovations, including State of the Art, RESFEST's flagship showcase of short form work, which starts the weekend; Fear and Trembling, a special late night horror program packed with chills and thrills; and Everything Under the Sun, a survey of recent socially conscious work. By Design returns to catalogue the year's finest motion graphics and broadcast design, while Cinema Electronica and Videos That Rock collect 2006's outstanding music videos. Denis Henry Hennelly and Casey Suchan's sensational documentary Rock the Bells, which plays Saturday night, offers an inside view of the last Wu-Tang concert ever. RESFEST also takes a look back at a decade of pioneering moving image work with a pair of retrospective programs -- Unsung Heroes collects the festival's best videos, and A Decade of RESFEST presents ten seminal short films. Finally, closing out the festival on Sunday night, our unique artist retrospective, Radiohead, the Visionaries, examines the pioneering UK band's career-long support for emerging visual innovators. Check out all that, plus parties and more, this weekend at the MCA!

MOVIE NIGHT WITH GASPAR NOE
French cinema's leading provocateur
in person to present a double feature:
His debut I STAND ALONE
and Pasolini's notorious SALO!
Tuesday, October 10 at 7:00pm!
Gaspar Noe, the provocative and controversial French filmmaker, will appear in person Tuesday, October 10 at 7:00 pm to present special screenings of his first feature, I STAND ALONE, and Pier Paolo Pasolini's SALO, OR THE 120 DAYS OF SODOM as part of the Center's popular "Movie Night" series.
Noe burst onto the international scene in 1998 with I STAND ALONE (Seul contre tous), his breathtakingly audacious first feature -- a tale of a 50 year-old butcher just out of prison and determined to wreak vengeance upon the world. Jonathan Rosenbaum, writing in the Chicago Reader, called the film a masterpiece, adding "I STAND ALONE is a movie that removes your head, [screws] with it for a while, and then hands it back to you." To screen with I STAND ALONE, Noe has selected another film that pushes the boundaries of screen representation: SALO, OR THE 120 DAYS OF SODOM (1975), Pier Paolo Pasolini's notorious adaptation of the Marquis de Sade's 18th-century novel, transposed to 1944 Italy during the brief reign of the Nazi puppet government. "In a way the ultimate film: its representation of depravity may be unsurpassable," notes Richard Brody in The New Yorker.
Tickets for this special event are $12 ($10 seniors).
