Christian Slater off the hook

a plea deal that will allow him to avoid jail time for grabbing and squeezing a woman's buttocks on an Upper East Side street in May. Newsday says the actor, whose movies include "Heathers" and "True Romance," was arguing with a cab driver and then a girlfriend at 2a.m. May 31 before he walked up behind a woman at 1650 Third Ave. and inappropriately touched her, prosecutors said.
This seems so wrong, but I'm not a famous actor so who am I to say?

a mega-church in Greenwich Village

A lot of mega churches have come to Texas and California, and the trend continues across USA, even on to Brooklyn's Christian Cultural Center. Bestselling New York Times author Malcolm Gladwell had a long article in the New Yorker last week about Rev. Rick Warren and his mega church in Orange County, California. They had to rent the Anaheim Angels' baseball stadium just to address the entire congregation at once! Rick Warren's The Purpose Driven Life became one of the bestsellers of all time. Warren told his publishers he would sell 100 million copies. It already has sold 23 million copies. And no huge major newspaper, not even Gladwell's, has reviewed it.
So that's why I was so interested to see this in my mailbox today: "The River is a new church meeting in Greenwich Village seeking life in all its fullnews—the life Jesus promises." This church, at 219 Sullivan Street, has all the makings of a mega church. It has a website and has services that are "casual and friendly with lively music". This seems to be under the radar screen of Greenwich Village, a quiet and small neighborhood with a fair share of traditional churches. Usually when you get mail from churches in NYC, it's asking for donations for the homeless or other charitable causes. So The River looks like it will be an interesting phenomenon.
