There aren't many places where a person can still make musical theatre a way of life -- but I'm living proof it can be done in little old New York.
It is my profession as well as my hobby -- alright, call it what it really is . . . .my life obsession. Aside from seeing musicals on a weekly (often daily) basis, I serve as Communications Director (that means press person) for the York Theatre, one of the few fulltime professional theatre companies in the world dedicated to developing new musicals and rediscovering under-appreciated gems from the past. I also teach musical theatre history at NYU's Steinhardt School, and I lecture at venues all over the NY metro area. I've appeared in documentaries on TV and DVD, and recently made my PBS debut as a talking head in the new documentary HOLLYWOOD SINGING AND DANCING.
Can't say that all this activity makers me rich -- far from it! But I'm having a hell of a lot of fun. And I can't imagine any other place in the world today where I could be doing so much of what I love as right here in New York.
