Okay, I told you it would come to this! Yesterday, it was the Vampire Peacock of Tottenville. Today, it's the Agitated Zombie Rooster from the Graveyard. Today's Staten Island Advance reports that cemetery worker R.J. was busy doing his (we can only hope) gruesome duties, when he was brutally attacked by a terror from the grave - rooster-pecked at the ankles. Mr. R.J. then reacted swiftly dispatching the offending zombie fowl by stomping out the tiny terror, possibly saving the entire tri-state region from an onslaught of marauding monster fowl. Old Moravian Cemetery is home to the Vanderbilt Mausoleum and the resting places of many eternal islanders (including my own ancestry -- the Lederman plot -- fifty or so feet from the front gate on your left). Now being home to a vast array of egrets, geese and ducks who bask in the Olmstead-designed ponds, spawning new generations of possessed pigeons and other fearsome fowl out to terrorize our region. The Advance reports that according to Special Agent Sean McCafferty (Yes, X-File fans, Special Agent -- ASPCA) describes the pecking attack thus, "It came after him, it was pecking on his leg. It kept coming at him." Well, thank God that the ASPCA has special agents, and hopefully a whole X-File unit of its own to protect us from this unspeakable feathered threat!
