Plumm is Sexy Sweet

The newest night spot to sprout out of the Meatpacking District is The Plumm. The former site of Nell's keeps the velvet rope intact, allowing invitation-only attendance. (I only got in by being on the list for a book party.) The room is dark with rich paneled walls aglow with the warm light of large, boxy, orange chandeliers that put the club somewhere between a 19th century men's club and a Shanghai brothel. Low rectangular couches are placed squarely about, giving good sightlines to people-watch across the length of the club. Margaritas were sweetly-tart with just a little salt on the rim. Music was just loud enough to make conversations only slightly difficult. Black and white nude photos by Ian Cutler of shadows and patterns across fine flesh canvases sets a sultry mood. Seeing as how there have been several establishments in this space in the past year or so, I suggest you pick this fruit before it falls -- it may not get the chance to ripen.
The Plumm, 246 West 14th Street, Chelsea/Meatpacking District, between 7th and 8th.

It was a National Television Academy book party for TELEVISION DISRUPTED: The Transition from Network to Networked TV
By: SHELLY PALMER

Strangely enough, the party followed an event by MediaBistro "Flacks & Hacks" party at Slate for a new book, Get a Freelance Life: mediabistro.com's Insider Guide to Freelance Writing.

It was strange because with three kids at home and lots more going on lately, it's very unusual for me to accept these kinds of invitations, especially on the same night.

This has got to be the worst bar in the city. I went here on a Sat. night expecting a good time only to pay a $50 cover to hang out with 10 macaulay culkin groupies. TEN!!! there were literally 10 people in the entire place and they all seemed to be waiting for a star to walk in, which never happened. If you are planning on hitting up The Plumm save you time and head over to Hogs and Heifers.
