Miso Restaurant

Great Sushi
Miso is a great Japanese resteraunt in Dumbo that specializes in Southern Japanese Cuisine. Try their miso soup, light and full with little mushrooms. I love the sauted mixed vegetables and their spicy tuna. They have all sorts of special rolls as well so if you're a lover of sushi, you really have to try Miso.

Joya

Enjoy Joya
Joya has some of the best Thai food around Brooklyn. Always packed with locals, hosting a live dj on the weekends, when unfortunately they don't deliver. With great dishes like the classic chicken massaman, tasty skirt steak, and salmon filet one can't go astray at Joya. The prices are moderate and a really good deal for the amount of food you get and they even have a lovely garden in the back if you desire a quiter ambiance. If it's really busy it's easy to skip the big line and ask them if you can sit at the kitchen bar. I always find it exciting to watch these talented chefs prepare their meals. Enjoy Joya.

Sake Bar Decibel

Authentic Japanese!
This underground sake bar is awesome. The music is always ecletic and changing and the bar has tons of charm, down to the grafitti ridden walls. Try a booth for a little bit of privacy or sit at the bar in the front as you walk in. They have a lot of great little dishes to devour as you drink and I'm especially a fan of the ice cream here and the little shrimp snacks.

Amazing Italian!
Don't let the name throw you off. Noodle Pudding is some of the finest Italian food in New York City, and at moderate prices. Always full with regulars who can't get enough of the authentic pasta meat dishes. I definitely recommend the Wild King Salmon (made by God in Alaska), and the Calamari, fried in a delicate batter, is some of the finest I've tasted. They also make a mean rabbit dish. So if you love great Italian food then you must make the trip to Brooklyn Heights and enjoy this neighborhood favorite.

Marquee Nightclub

The Key to Marquee
The key is to get in for free and drink for free otherwise the scene is overrated. The music is all right, not downright horrible, but nothing to write home about. It gets a bit too crowded to have your own dancing space and with most clubs of this type, they're all about bottle service.

Southpaw

For Lefties and Righties alike
Southpaw is a solid music venue hailing from the streets of Park Slope. A long bar alongside one wall of the interior greets you as you walk in and don't worry if you get to a concert late, you'll find yourself stage right. There's an elevated section in the back with a pool table for all you sharpshooters too. Booking is pretty good at this club as well and has now outdone The Warsaw as the premier large venue in Brooklyn.

Cake Shop

You Can Have Your Cake and Eat It Too
Are you hungry, for cake, music, recorded or live? Then head to the Cake Shop to quench any one of these human desires. Upstairs you'll find food and records and downstairs at night they host live music and a bar. Unfortunately they had no vodka when I asked, but the sake was a nice surprise. There's no stage so and it gets a bit crowded for a larger band but all in all a good experience.

Bar 169

Come down to escape the masses.
Bar 169 is a good out of the way bar to get a drink and play pool with some friends. A good dance party breaks out there every so often and they host shows, although they’re charging now. If you want to get away from the crowds of the bars further uptown, head down to Bar 169.

Pianos

Dancing now allowed!
I was just at Pianos the other night to check out a friend’s band and I was informed by the manager that they just received their cabaret license, bringing back the dance to the upstairs. The sound system for the shows upstairs is a bit weak, but hey its free and downstairs hosts some decent bands as well. The crowd is a bit uptown visiting the lower east side on the weekends and it can get very cramped, making the task of getting a drink a little more difficult.

Great Healthy Food
Souen offers a great macrobiotic menu. With excellent ambiance and a warm staff, the food is delicious and is good for you, often a hard combination to find in this city. I personally love the seaweed salad and the adzuki bean mousse.
