Why is it the best time to buy fine jewelry? It seems counterintuitive because right now everyone is strapped for cash. The summer cooling costs, gas prices, and going out and enjoying yourself in the warm weath... and the costs are rising. It seems like our economy is tanking quick, and markets for luxury items are shrinking. This trend is reflected in many industries, but its especially true for the jewelry and diamond industries as well. It's always the retailers in the middle of the industry that get washed away. Inexpensive jewelry like silver and costume designs are relatively stable because these products are trendy and disposable and relatively inexpensive. However in middle-high end jewelry stores with fine gold, platinum, diamonds, and other precious gems the market depends on the middle class and how much they can spend on luxury items. Big businesses like Zales, Tiffany, DeBeers etc can afford to ride out the slump...however this is not the case for many private retailers and family owned businesses. The middle is getting wiped out, and many of them are getting desperate. Right now, customers are getting the best deals possible because prices are low so as to attract buyers and they need to sell to pay the bills. If you wait too long, the retailers will start liquidating and selling back to other retailers and wholesalers and therefore all those bargains will be lost to the customer. It would be a good idea to invest in some fine jewelry now rather than wait until the fall season where holiday shopping maddness will cause prices to skyrocket.
