Jimmie Briggs, author, freelance journalist, photographer, and
renowned expert on the issues of child soldiers and gender-based
violence, will speak about his recent book entitled: “Innocents Lost:
When Child Soldiers Go to War”.
"Lost Innocents: Child Soldiers At War, a hard-hitting documentary
that takes an audience from somnolent innocence to a compassionate
understanding of child soldiers, their families, communities and
nations."
Briggs’ book encompasses more than six years of investigative
journalism and captures the personal stories of child soldiers who were
involved in conflicts in Afghanistan, Uganda, Rwanda, Columbia, and Sri
Lanka. Jimmie Briggs' decade-long career as a journalist has been to
share with the world the voices and stories of the disenfranchised and
voiceless. Briggs is the first African American to be appointed as a
Goodwill Ambassador and Special Envoy for Children and Armed Conflict
by WAFUNIF at the United Nations. In addition, Jimmie was accorded the
honor of serving as a Special Consultant for the United Nations Special
Session on Children.
