Editorial Review
Written and performed by NY Nightlife Award finalist Micaela Leon, "Tigers, Muses & Jasmine" celebrates the avant-garde daring do of eight of the most notorious female trend-setters of Weimar Berlin while reflecting on the political and social instability of the times, as the Nazi storm on the horizon grew increasingly menacing. The one-woman revue intersperses songs by Friedrich Hollaender, Mischa Spoliansky, Hanns Eisler and Kurt Weill with the words, ideas and signature gestures of a remarkable rogues gallery. These influential iconoclasts, who challenged popular tastes and opinion while trading in the scandal, rebellion and sense of experimentation that swelled in Berlin between the two world wars, include Marlene Dietrich, Anita Berber & Valeska Gert among others. In the end, all the artists and composers depicted in the revue were labeled degenerates by the Nazis, and were either exiled, imprisoned or killed.
