  EDITORIAL REVIEW

Every July 4th New York City is host to one of the most spectacular fireworks shows you will find anywhere on the planet. From rooftops, balconies, parks, boardwalks and highways, spectators along the East River will have a front row view of the show. The approximately 30-minute display fires over 1,100 shells per minute and will be coordinated from 6 barges at two locations on the East River in New York City. Always a highlight of every Macy’s Fireworks is the famed Golden Mile, a multi-layer explosion that stretches across the skyline for over a mile, filling it with a golden light from the water’s edge to 1,200 feet in the air. Macy’s Fireworks barges will be positioned at the East River between 10th and 24th Streets in Manhattan, featuring a center double barge configuration flanked by two single barges. At the South Street Seaport, a double barge configuration will be positioned just south of the Brooklyn Bridge for the show.

WHERE TO SEE THE FIREWORKS:

East River locations
In Manhattan the best place to view the fireworks is on the East Side, on the FDR Drive, along the river from 23rd Street to 42nd Street. Pedestrians may access the pedestrian only areas at 23rd, 38th and 42nd Streets. The fireworks are also visible from many high rise apartments, and may also be best seen from Hunter's Point, Queens, and Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Please note: The F.D.R. Drive will be closed from the Staten Island Ferry Terminal to 63rd Street, and from Broad Street to the Brooklyn Bridge, in both directions. In Brooklyn, Furman Street will be closed from Atlantic Avenue to Cadman Plaza West. The Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queensboro, and Williamsburg bridges will all remain open to car traffic and are not permitted viewing locations.

South Street Seaport area
For the South Street Seaport show, the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, Empire Fulton Ferry State Park, Furman Street from Atlantic Avenue to Cadman Plaza West, and the lower F.D.R. drive are optimal.

Liberty State Park in NJ
For the New York Harbor show, Liberty Walk and New Jersey's Liberty State Park are best.

You can also see the fireworks in HDTV on NBC starting at 9 pm EST. Listen to a music simulcast on 1010 WINS radio.
